HRSS/ BASS Excel Workshop
HRSS and BASS are collaborating to provide you with an excel workshop this semester! In order to be successful within your career, you need to have the right tools. We all understand that excel is the bread and butter of the business world, yet we are rarely set up for success with knowledge over that tool. Our mission is to provide all of you with the resources necessary to be amazing in your future careers and our excel workshop will teach you everything that you will need to know to excel with confidence. This year we are dividing our excel workshop into two sessions, Introduction to Excel and Intermediate Excel. The workshop is designed to familiarize students with Microsoft Excel, a software program, necessary for their future careers. Begin with the introductory course to build your confidence and/or sign up to the intermediate class to learn how to work with advanced topics and formulas. Beginner Session (2:00pm - 3:30pm): 1. Basic formatting 2. Sorting data 3. Basic functions and operations (sum, average, max, min, count) 4. Subtotals 5. Formula (Time Value of Money) 6. Basic keyboard shortcuts Intermediate Session (3:30pm - 5:00pm): 1. IF functions (Countif, Sumif, Averageif) 2. Filters 3. Pivot tables and charts 4. BASS CPA Networking Dinner
We are very excited to invite you to the CPA Networking Dinner that we are hosting! It is the first time since the pandemic that we will be able to have this dinner in person. BASS is thrilled to invite accounting students to the upcoming CPA Networking Dinner! This is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness for the upcoming events and opportunities at various companies while networking with current CPAs. Professionals and students will have the opportunity to network, build connections, and meet a wide variety of interested accounting students in different years of study. Attendees will be provided with a 3 course meal & 1 drink ticket. For additional drinks, the bar will also accept card payments (no cash). Lastly, the dress code is Business Casual. Additional details will be provided later - we will confirm meal selection at a later date. BASS Industry Night
Want to learn more about opportunities for accounting students in Industry? During this event you'll have an opportunity to connect with various industry professionals. You'll learn about their experience, what it is like to work in industry, what their organization is like, and potential future job opportunities. Join us for an evening of lively conversation, while being served refreshments and h'orderves. You will be provided with 2 drink tickets upon attending this event and can snack freely while networking with professionals from different industries. BASS Case Competition 2022
Want to test your technical accounting skills? or do you simply want to up-skill your resume? Sign up now! BASS members who have completed ACCT 3220 are welcome to join and develop more skills on the way! Students will compete in teams of two for this internal case competition. Each team will be judged and ranked base on the team's case presentation. You can register another person and list them as your teammate, or you can register individually and we will match you up with a teammate. Enjoy and think strategically! BASS Kickoff - CPA Scavenger Hunt
Interested in obtaining your CPA designation? Join us for an amazing IN-PERSON networking event with CPA representatives and a fun SCAVENGER HUNT only at MRU. The night will start off with a CPA information session, where you will hear from CPA representatives as they provide information about the CPA program, from enrolment requirements to reasons obtaining a CPA designation. You will then head to WGS (West Gate Social), where you will team up with students for a scavenger hunt around MRU Campus! Featuring:

Financial Accounting Case Competition
This event is a great opportunity to apply the technical accounting skills you have learned in the classroom and apply them to real-life business scenarios. Develop your skills, think strategically and have some fun! Students will compete in teams of two for this internal case competition. Each team will be judged and ranked based on the team’s case presentation. The competition is open to BASS Members that have completed ACCT 3220. If you have not completed this course or are currently enrolled in it, you will be ineligible to enter. Date: Friday, November 26, 2021. Time: 8:00AM-4:00PM Presentation starts at 1:15 PM where each team will have a 10 minutes presentation followed by a question and answer portion. Prizes: 1st place: $700, 2nd place: $500, 3rd place: $300 Please note a $20 deposit is required per team. CPA Case Workshop
This event is a great opportunity to learn how to effectively navigate and write cases. A big portion of getting your CPA designation is the ability to analyze cases within a short time frame. This can be a daunting endeavor at the beginning of your case writing journey. When: Friday February 4, 2022 Time: 11:00AM - 12:30PM Location: Zoom By joining this event, you will gain strategies that can help you approach cases strategically. In addition, you will have an opportunity to hear about the CPA journey of 3 professionals that have recently written their CFE. |

Women in Accounting Event
Let us celebrate international women's day!! Join us for our first Women in Accounting Event. Date: Tuesday, March 8th Time: 1:15pm-2:45pm. As our world moves forward towards greater equality, and as a society that has a majority of female members and executives, we too are passionate about doing our part to forward this movement. Our event will include 4 female speakers who will be discussing and answering your questions in a round table style, all of which have significant career experience, growth mindsets and a passion to support all of you in moving forward together.
