CPA Big 4 Event
  • What:  Are you an undergraduate student interested in pursuing your CPA designation and are looking for summer, co-op or full time 2024 opportunities with the Big 4? Come join the Big 4 Accounting Firms (KPMG, EY, Deloitte and PwC) as well as CPA Alberta representatives for an in-person event to kick-off our Spring Recruiting cycle!
    The event will begin with an informative presentation from CPA Alberta, followed by a panel of Big 4 Senior Managers and Partners discussing their experience obtaining their CPA designation and working at a Big 4 firm. The remainder of the event will be open networking where you can network with each of the Big 4 firms as well as CPA Alberta representatives!

The award is in the form of a personal plaque and an honorarium of $3,000. The award will be announced at an appropriate venue.

The recipient of the award will be determined by our Dean, Dr. Kelly Williams-Whitt after the BASS (Bissett Accounting Students’ Society) Executives have nominated the top 3 candidates. The Executives will base their decision on nominations from students who took accounting courses in 2022 (i.e. Winter 2022, Spring/Summer 2022 and Fall 2022). The form will close at 11:59 PM on Monday, January 30th, 2022.

Deloitte Canada Virtual Info Session
Hello! RSM is once again offering Power Your Education - Canada, this year’s program is available now for applications. 
In total, the firm’s Foundation will provide $20,000(US) in scholarships to four well-deserving students for the 2023/2024 academic year. One of those could be you or someone you know!

Power Your Education Canada Scholarships:
  • Four students will each be awarded a $5,000 (USD) scholarship
  • Open to those two to three years away from graduation/full-time employment
Additional eligibility criteria include pursuing a bachelor's degree in business or technology with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and a legal resident of Canada (excluding Quebec).

KPMG Ideation Challenge Open House
​
KPMG Calgary is thrilled to invite your students to an upcoming KPMG Ideation Challenge Open House Event to learn more about the 2023 KPMG Ideation Challenge! 
What:
The KPMG Ideation Challenge will provide students the opportunity to interact with their peers as they work together to develop a solution to a real-world business problem and share it with KPMG leadership. Students will ignite their passion to create solutions to real-world problems, collaborate with others from across the country, develop business skills and grow their network within KPMG.
This year, there will be two streams of KPMG Ideation Challenge for students to participate in: the Case Competition (CPA/ Accounting students) and the Innovation Challenge (non-CPA students: General Business & STEM). Applicants will indicate which stream they would like to participate in when applying.
 
Our Open House will be held to provide more information on the overall competition, answer any questions students might have about the competition or KPMG!
 

Participants: Business or STEM students in their first to third year.
 
 You can apply as either an accounting or CPA student to our Case Competition or as a general business or STEM student to our Innovation Challenge.

Accounting Case Club 2022/23
What is Accounting Case Club?
The Accounting Case Club involves students working in small groups to analyze business and accounting cases and then making 10 - 15 minute oral presentations to accounting faculty mentors, who will provide constructive feedback.
 
Why Accounting Case Club?

1.     Improve your skills - Case analysis, teamwork and presentation skills are an integral part of all professional programs and designations. They are also key ingredients of a successful professional career.
2.     CPA Education foundation Business Challenge case competition and other potential case competitions - We are also aiming to register a team of four students (maybe even two teams!) in the CPA Business Challenge case competition, taking place in early March 2023 in-person at the Sheraton Cavalier hotel in NW Calgary.

 
Who is eligible?
If you have already completed both ACCT3220 Financial Accounting Practices and ACCT3224 Managerial Accounting 1 you have enough accounting knowledge to participate in Accounting Case Club.

WCM 2023 University Mentorship Program 
WCM's University Mentorship Program pairs female-identifying undergraduate and graduate students with a professional currently working in the finance industry. Students gain valuable insights, guidance and advice from their mentors that will help set their careers in motion.  Protégées will be paired with one mentor (male or female) for a 6 month period.  These meetings can be held virtually or in person, and will allow protégées to discuss a wide range of topics that may include:
- A view into a career in finance
- A day in the life of an Analyst/ Associate etc.
- Skill building for success
- Networking (building and maintaining a network; the etiquette of networking)
- Navigating the interview and recruiting process

​
Please note that timing of these meetings is flexible depending on what is best for both the mentor and protégé. The commitment is six hours total over the six month period. There are additional resources provided by WCM as well in scheduled sessions but participation is not required.

Network of Empowered Women Conference

Envision yourself engaging in meaningful conversation with driven and passionate students and professionals from across Canada at the picturesque Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise from March 16th to 19th, 2023. Delegates will leave the Conference empowered in both their personal and professional lives and will have built a powerful network of relationships on which to leverage their future endeavors. These workshops will provide you with skills and tips on how to write a job-winning resume & cover letter, how to be well-prepared for a job interview, and how to make the most out of an in-person career fair.

EY Fall Recruitment Virtual Info Sessions 
EY will be hosting multiple Canada-wide virtual sessions for students throughout August. There will be three different types of information sessions available:

1. Meet EY: will focus on all the awesome opportunities EY offers and important deadline dates around fall recruitment. These sessions will run on August 16th and 22nd to ensure that everyone can find a session that works for their schedule. Length: 2 hours.
 
2. EY Upskilling: will focus on tips about networking, resume and cover letter writing, video applications and interviews. These sessions will run on Thursdays at the dates below. Each session date covers a different topic. Length: 1 hour.
 
3. Service Line and Sub-Service Line Sessions: allows students to learn more about specific teams within EY and hear from individuals who work within these groups. B​issett Accounting Students Society was started in 2003, back when Mount Royal was still a college. As the years passed, BASS became the largest student society at MRU with 130+ new members each year. Today our club has connections with over 100 organizations in Calgary, Alberta.

Our aim is to help students launch their careers in the accounting profession by hosting a variety of events throughout the academic year. We collaborate with Career Services, MRU Alumni and Accounting firms to support students for their future accounting career.
